New Sawdust Extraction Plant at Walker’s Logs

Earlier in the year, we invested in a new Posch S-415 firewood processor which replaced our old 14 year old processor. This machine handles slightly larger logs than the previous machine, and hopefully will increase our annual output slightly.

We also relocated this machine to be in the same building as our two other Pezzolato firewood processors to increase efficiency. This keeps everything under one roof. Undoubtedly making life easier for the machine operators, forklift drivers and the log yard foreman.

Sadly our existing sawdust extraction system wasn’t up to removing sawdust from all three machines… So we commissioned a company called Indusvent to design, supply and install a whole new system. Indusvent are well respected dust extraction specialists, who operate nationally, serving the sawmilling, joinery and manufacturing sectors.

The whole system was replaced, with a new high efficiency inverter driven fan and cyclone. This will reduce our energy consumption and has reduced noise on site.

We were very pleased with Indusvent, they completed the whole project to exacting standards and worked to stringent Health and Safety requirements. Our new system will save energy, reduce noise and has increased the levels of suction to each machine.

We produce around 500 tonnes of sawdust per year. Which is then sold to the animal bedding market and is collected by lorry once a fortnight. We are committed to zero waste here at Walker’s Logs, even our log yard scrapings and bark which falls from the logs is used for power station fuel.
